I saw this on the morning it was broadcasted; thanks so much for posting the Youtube video of it! It definitely came at a time when I needed it most, since I’m a new mother with a five-month old daughter (his name is Harry, and he’s the sweetest thing ever!)
At first I thought that organic mattresses were a bunch of baloney, and just the result of the more manufacturers trying to market to new mothers. I was so ready to take my mother’s secondhand mattress to save a few pennies (ugh, how embarassing…it’s the same mattress that I used as a baby!). I thought that if I washed it and spruced it up a bit, everything would be fine. But boy, was I wrong.
After some research, I discovered that not only do secondhand mattresses pose a major suffocation risk to infants, but are also soaked with chemicals that can irritate Baby’s sensitive skin and even contribute to SIDS. Yikes! I knew that I didn’t want to expose Harry to that kind of risk, no matter how small it might have been. So I went out to find a new mattress (the one on the show was a bit too expensive!).
I used the Crib Mattress Guide to help me find the perfect crib mattress for baby Harry, and I’m so glad I did. Harry sleeps through the night, and his recent allergies aren’t irritated by the fibers of the natural crib mattress. I highly recommend that new mothers should use the Crib Mattress Guide !
